The health profession is filled with individuals who caring and want to help with your health.  Still, health practitioners have several unavoidable limitations to be aware of.

  1. There is no consensus on how to treat some ailments… In fact, there are as many varying opinions and contradictory medical studies as there are opinions in politics. (give one issue as example)

  2. Costs are high and always rising on treatments.  This sometimes means looking for new solutions.  Other solutions can often be simpler, less expensive, within one's reach and offer a better approach to therapy a health problem.  When one chooses to find another solution, remember to fall back on Principle #1 and do your research.

  3. Health Practitioners charge a lot for their time, so they often don’t have the time it would really take to help the patient reverse or heal his issue.  There are simply too few doctors to help all the people that need it. This means that they often wont tell you all that they know unless you ask the right questions.  For every year of my life, up until I finally asked the right question, I had gone tothe doctor with a sore throat.   Most visits revealed strep throat, a couple times bronchitis, and once it was pneumonia.  Sometimes, I asked what causes strep, but the answers varied from "it goes around, sometimes you just have to deal with it." to "are you staying hydrated?"  I know, I know, such cop out answers.  Not until I asked my question online did I find an answer that made sense.  Now I dont have to deal with throat and lung ailments anymore because I learned that a plant based diet reduces mucus in the body.

  4. Health practitioners have focused training and often do not have the whole picture of what is causing a problem.  The human body is so amazing and complex, who could really know it all?  Many have learned that our nutrition largely controls how healthy we will be.  Its amazing to realize that most doctors today get very little nutrition training.

The good news is anyone can come to know their own body better than any individual practitioner.  Being involved as steward over your own health will help you navigate these limitations.
